John the Robot Belongs in the Robot Hall of Fame

This is my humble attempt to get a little-known robot some respect and recognition. Some people lobby to get their favourite athlete in one of the various sports halls of fame. Others make a case to get their favourite rock star in the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of fame. Me, I'm putting my efforts into getting John the Robot inducted in the Robot Hall of Fame . Although he is nowhere near as famous as Robby the Robot ( Forbidden Planet ) nor as popular as Gort ( The Day the Earth Stood Still ), John the Robot from Voyage to the Prehistoric Planet is an awesome robot in his own right. John's lack of notoriety probably has to do with the fact that his movie is a very obscure B-movie which itself was an English dub of an equally-obscure sci-fi Russian film called Planeta Bur . Its plot is nowhere near as good as the movies Robby and Gort are featured in but for a low-budget movie with man-eating plants and lizard men, overall it is not too bad. Is VHS Dead or Alive?

If you remember the 80's and 90's, then you probably also remember video rental stores and all the nostalgia that goes along with them. One of those nostalgic things is VHS videotapes which filled store shelves before becoming obsolete due to a new format known as DVD. For a while VHS cassettes and DVDs shared the shelf space until the latter established itself as the superior format and completely took over. DVDs were less bulky, had better video quality and never needed rewinding. The last major Hollywood movie to be released on VHS was A History of Violence in 2006. It was clear that VHS was dead and never coming back. Or is it? Extra vigilant (read more) »

Cold Drinks: A Pop Song by Weird Paul

Do you like cold drinks? What about Cold Drinks ? I know what you're thinking. You're thinking I just asked the same question, twice. That's not the case, however. The first refers to beverages while the second is a catchy, cheerful song by Weird Paul about those beverages. As Paul sings to the bouncy music, retro drive-in ads play, showing various ice-cold soft drinks being poured. The song and the images really go well together, like soda pop and ice. Weird Paul has even adopted it as the official video for Cold Drinks , at least for the time being. Maybe someday he will make a proper video of his own that will really pop!
